The job of national coach and club coach are very different and often have contrary interests. For these reasons, the IFFHS has carried separate world votes from the start; that has proved advantageous and, after 13 years experience, will be retained.

On the other hand the best club coaches will appoint frequent as national coach and these coaches often resume as club coach after working for a national team. It is therefore logical to draw up an all-time ranking which unites both categories of coach. It is possible to draw up an all-time world ranking of the best coaches from the annual world votes from 1996.

In order to determine the all-time world ranking of the best coaches, the results from the annual "Top 10" in both categories of coach were taken into consideration, awarding 10 points for a 1st place, nine points for the 2nd place and so on.. By totalling the points received since 1996, the All-Time World Coach Ranking will be extended annually.
